Polka dot is one of the fashionable prints that really gained traction in 2018, perhaps it’s part of the return to overt femininity, fashion has gone spotty. It is a more feminine coin sized prints that can be styled alone or with other similar patterns, some of the recent Polka dots designs are very vintage and cute. There are different sizes (we have large, small and tiny) and colors of the print.
If your idea of polka dot is similar to the one you wore as a little girl, then it’s time you did a re-think and explore the print versatility. During this year’s spring/summer catwalk, the print popped up continuously with labels like Balenciaga, Self-Portrait, Mary Katrantzou, Giorgio Armani, Dior,’80s-inspired iterations at Carolina Herrera to glamorous swim looks at Jacquemus and smaller spots on romantic dresses at Jason Wu. They schooled us on diverse ways to style the print, from Demna Gvasalia’s chiffon dresses worn with sock boots to Maria Grazia Chiuri’s monochromatic sheer skirts and blouses.
The wardrobe staple is very open to diversity, whatever your style. It is a trend that can be worn or styled to suit your taste, however you choose to style it; whether down or playful bold or modern.
Many style influencers have taken to the streets to offer us perfect polka dotted ensembles in real life, and with each new style influencer look comes a unique way to wear this stylish print. Popular Designer Marc Jacobs also said “I DON’T THINK there is ever a wrong time for a polka dot”, and I readily agree with him on this.
