Where do you consider home and why?

Lagos, Nigeria is home. I was brought up here so it holds a lot of my childhood memories. We lived in Ilupeju for about six years, then we moved to Ikeja, and then we moved to the Island when I was like 11. I can still recall memories of being a child and listening to music in the car with my dad driving across the bridge from the Mainland to the Island.

What’s the furthest you’ve been from home?

I think the furthest I’ve been away from home is Maldives. So far, that is the longest trip I’ve ever been on. From London to Dubai, Dubai to somewhere in the Maldives before getting on a boat… we were travelling for like a day or so.

Where have you lived apart from your hometown?

I have lived in London for most of my adult life; I went to high school there and also went to university there. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business management from Kings College University London in 2014. I currently live in New York where I am undertaking a Masters degree in Music business.

What are your 3 travel essentials?

I usually travel for work so: my DJ bag, my headphones and mobile phone.

Any packing, airport or travel tips for us?

I do research on airports, so I know what to expect. And I have a list of essential things I always take with me. Things we all tend to forget like chargers, PJ’s, flip flops and adaptors.

Where have you visited in Africa and where would you like to explore next?

Other than Nigeria, other African countries I’ve visited are South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya. I loved all these countries and I am looking forward to exploring Africa a lot more. Hopefully this time next year, I will have more countries in my list.

Any travel tips, advice or suggestions for visitors to Nigeria?

Always have a bottle of water close by. The heat can be very dehydrating at times. Apart from that, have fun, eat as much as you can and make the most of your time in Lagos!

What’s your hidden treasure, your favourite discovery so far? Your go-to place to eat, hang out or escape to in your city?

Ahh when I’m in Lagos, I sometimes head to Yellow Chili for some Amala or to Maison Fahrenheit for a Bellini after a long day.

And your favourite city in Nigeria?

I visited Abuja recently for the Presidential inaugural ball, which I was honored to DJ at, but Lagos will always be my favourite city.

What are the last couple souvenirs you’ve picked up on your travels?

Last time I visited Ghana, I bought lots and lots of fabrics and things like bags and cushions made from Kente fabric.

What’s your favourite comfort food and what’s the one thing you look forward to eating when you travel?

My favourite comfort food, travel or no travel, is cupcakes. I’m obsessed and can’t get enough of them!

Ticket & hotel reservations are a huge part of travelling, how do you handle that?

I always try to plan in advance; I have a great agency I’ve worked with for years unless I am travelling for work then the client handles that. Even when I am travelling with friends, I’m known to take it upon myself to make everyone’s arrangements, as I tend to be the most organized. Haha!

Where did you go on your last trip, where are you going on your next trip and what are you looking forward to?

My last major trip was Los Angeles. I went away for a short vacation with my friends, it was so much fun! Next time I’ll be travelling, I’ll be off on my 10-country African Tour, Cuppy Takes Africa.
