The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award 2016 is today and as usual our anticipation of red carpet looks are heightened as trends and style get better each year. We took to asking multiple award winning stylist and fashion entrepreneur, Jane Michael what she expects on the red carpet and for the event as a whole.

How involved were you at last year’s AMVCAs and who were the celebrities you styled?

I was not actively involved but I styled the beautiful Joke Silva and Ruth Kadiri.

What are your expectations for this year AMVCAs as regards to the fashion?

I hope not to see a lot of copy and paste of what stars wore from the  Grammys and the Oscars and all the international awards that have already taken place. I also don’t want to believe that we will see a lot of capes because it’s been bastardized. One or two capes will be forgiven but if I see up to 5, it will be tragic.  I expect to see a lot of sheer though.

What are your expectations with respect to the event itself?

I’ve been opportuned to be more involve with this year’s AMVCA than last year. I think that the response they are getting towards this year event is overwhelming and I get that feeling that they don’t have enough resources for the capacity of people that are getting involved. Tickets to the event this year is so scarce as compared to last year. Even in respect to the fashion, there are more celebrities wanting to be styled and some even going as far as reaching out to the designers themselves.

You said you expect to see a lot of sheer, is it because you feel sheer is the trending style for this season?

The reason why I said sheer is expected to be seen is because it’s a trick to detailing. Everyone seems to be rushing and trying to get their stuff done, plus everyone wants to be sexy and revealing.

Who are you styling for this year’s event?

This year I’m not working with any celebrity but rather the management. I’m styling the General Manager of DSTV, Kholeka Maringo and the Brand Manager of Africa Magic, Ipuseng Oreagba.

Thank you for you time Jane

You’re welcome.
