I used to think that the more time I spent in the fashion world, the more immune I would be to the collections, designs, trends, prints and patterns that are released every time I blink. But I guess that will have to happen in another lifetime, as just when I think I have finally seen the prettiest and most sophisticated pieces ever, I’m reminded that it is called fashion for a reason.
Though Versace always has a reason to be in the spotlight, we can’t deny that 2018 was a great year from the fashion brand. From the spectacular tribute spring show featuring supers which Donatella had for her brother, to co-hosting the 2018 Met Gala where she ruled the red carpet, then receiving The CFDA International Award. 2018 was a Versace year.
Putting the icing on the cake and staying true to the brand’s MO, the Versace Resort 2019 collection was a sexy-strong print dream. The collection was inspired by the mythological Medusa, with Donatella herself admitting that she liked the British “idea of anarchy” . The collection, although more glitzy than punk, also served as a comment on the sofa activism of this radical moment in time, which has made feminist punks of us all.
For this collection, Donatella introduced an array of new electric prints in the brand’s recognizable aesthetic. Part of the collection was filled with hard-to-miss explosive pieces, as well as touches of athleisure for the millennials which gave it the sporty-meets-chic aesthetic, and an array of well tailored outfits for the business oriented ladies. There was a piece for everyone in the collection.
As lovely as all the alphabet print designs are, the colorful alphabet mini skirt print is my best so far, it exudes a mysterious vibe that can be toned down or up, which defines and suits my personal style. I love the over-the-top femme silhouette in combination with the thigh high slit, which could lend an edgier vibe with the right styling.
There are several ways to style this mini skirt. You can style it with another colorful patterned jacket or top like the same way it was styled in the collection. Actress Lupita Nyong’o was spotted December late last year in the exact look. While if you’re a minimalist that is taking a step out of your comfort zone, you can style it with a plain colored top, blouse or shirt just like Jennifer Hudson. If you’re a street style star and you want to add spice up your look, you can add a sock or a fanny pack to your look.
Friday is here already and it’s the perfect option for a TGIF hangout. If you’re like me and you don’t need to wait for a Friday to wear your party dress then wear it. This skirt would look just as great in sneakers as with heels!
