Owgee’s Five Things

Oghogho Omorotionmwan, popularly known as Owgee by all those who cannot or do not pronounce her name, writes, loves to read, loves many things vintage and Ankara and is an Avid Social Media Research Analyst. She joined #TeamSV in March and we’ve enjoyed working with her and reading her very witty and enlightening posts. As we do, we’ve asked her to share five things she’s loving at the moment!

Afro: The Girl With The Magical Hair

Pardon me for being biased, but what is not to love about a book on natural hair?! Afro: The Girl With The Magical Hair is a hilarious spin on Rapunzel’s story. It really is about promoting kinky hair and the illustrations by Sharee Miller does even more justice to the story as written by Okechukwu Ofili.

Fresh Corn and Ube

Roasted corn and pear

I can live on fresh corn, whether boiled or roasted for one week. Paired with African pear which is more popularly known as ube, maybe two weeks. From the joint under the bridge at Mende, to the one by the traffic light on Ligali Ayorinde,

Born On A Tuesday

Born On A Tuesday

I always wondered why my friend, Tolu Olowo loved author and Caine Prize nominee, Elnathan John so much until I started reading his latest book, Born On A Tuesday. The book which is basically about coming of age also gives an insight into religious extremism in Northern Nigeria. I love the book so much, I might write a proper review when I finish reading it. Did I mention that Elnathan’s writing is easy and sweet to read? No dictionaries needed.

Phyno’s Fada Fada

I did not realise how much I liked this song until I watched Phyno perform it live at #CHOBS16. Even though Olamide was not all over this song, I have to say that with this song, he and Phyno have joined D’banj and Don Jazzy on my list of Favourite Nigerian CollaBros.

Perry Ellis’ 360 For Women

I stole the small bottle in Perry Ellis’ four-piece fragrance set from my mum few months back and just like that it bounced Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea from number one spot in my fragrance life. My love for this perfume stems from the fact that it is subtle, yet smells fresh.

Bonus Thing!

This list of things I love presently would be incomplete without this last thing, so please, allow me add this jara.

Unsteady By X Ambassadors

Last weekend, I watched this movie, Me Before You which Game Of Throne’s Daenarys Tagaeryan (aka Khaleesi), Emilia Clarke starred in. I’m not sure I have seen a sadder movie in a while, but one of the songs on the soundtrack caught my attention, and since then I have not been able to get it out of my mouth. Times like this make me grateful that I do not have a specific preference when it comes music, because if I did, I might have let this awesome song by alternative rock band, X Ambassadors pass me by.

  1. Lemme tell you why I love you….first of all, I have not been able to get Fada Fada out of my head and heart since CHOBS 16 either. That Phyno’s performance did something to me that left me wanting more.

The first time I heard Unsteady was last night, while watching So You Think You Can Dance Next Generation. It was extra special because of the people dancing it. The song has not left my head since then, and now, you have made sure it lasts a little longer.

    Good write up babe.

  2. That unsteady song had a lil sting to my soul while watching it.. Those pitches are meant to make men change their ways.. Awesome song! Downloaded and saved.. Sadly I’m still not a book person.. U neva wanted to make me one.. But it’s all good..

Love your write-ups.. Guess this Is my first comment.. Well done..
