London was my stomping ground for many years, where I worked, lived and played and it still feels like home when I visit. There are definitely very specific things I miss about it since I moved back to Nigeria and look forward to doing when there. Recently, as I prepared for another move, I visited very briefly and it brought it all back.
Here are five of my favourite things about LDN.
If you live in Lagos you know that going for a stroll isn’t to be undertaken lightly whereas living in London, life without a car is pretty typical. I loved being able to walk out my door and down to the shops and hop on a bus or train to wherever. I find walking therapeutic and it counts as exercise and I’ve been known to go wandering, just listening to music, for an hour or two.
Caffé Nero’s Soy Chai Latte
I’m lactose intolerant so I’ve given up dairy milk and replaced it with soy milk. This means often having to forgo a frothy cappuccino or creamy latte. This is where Caffé Nero steps in to save the day with their chai latte which they can make with soy milk on request. I’ve had others but theirs is the right amount of spiced, sweet and creamy and the cinnamon on top finishes it off perfectly. Yum!
The High Street
Topshop, Primark, Zara, H&M, Marks & Spencer – need I say more! If you’ve never shopped for more than underwear in M&S then you’ve got to give them a second look for fashion and shoes. Also great food. Then there are the random fashion stores that differ from high street to high street and don’t seem to last very long and always have some sort of sale on/
When I moved to the UK to do my A levels, Boots was my one stop shop for everything beauty and health and that hasn’t changed. Their stores, especially the larger ones, have extensive beauty offerings from drugstore brands to luxury labels and their Nº7 range is a treasure. I always stock up on their Intelligent Colour Foundation, Lash & Brow Perfector and Stay Perfect lipsticks when I visit. They also have great deals and a fantastic reward card that lets you buy anything with points you rack up as you shop. I’ve picked up some luxe treats with those!
Burger & Lobster
Does exactly what it says on the tin. This chain of restaurants keeps it simple and delicious with just three things on its menu – burger, lobster and lobster rolls. Accompanied with a drink from their offering of yummy cocktails to wash it all down and you have a perfect meal.
