The Surprise Continues

Her knees became so weak that they could barely support the rest of her body. She fell into her seat. Her first instinct was to pick up the phone and call Muna. But she didn’t want to bother her with her(Ana ) problems she had already been through a lot with all the drama that went on during her wedding. She really needed to talk to someone and get this off her chest.

Right then, Mirabel walks in with a lady she hadn’t met before. She had met a couple of Mirabel’s friends at different occasions but she really was not sure she had met this lady before. She was stunning with really fair skin an perfectly pursed lips. It was quite clear cut that she was the product of an inter-racial relationship

“Hey my darling” Mirabel said while embracing her and giving her a warm peck on the cheek

“You look so flushed dear. I told you you work way to much for your good. You should have gone home to rest” she continued

“I can’t rest while I still have a lot of work to be done, Mirabel”

“Oh pardon my manners. Ana, his is my sister-in-law Alexis. She’s married to my older brother Junior. They just moved back from the England.”

“Hello Alexis, it’s really nice to meet you”

“So i finally get to meet the Ana of Lucid Dreams that Mirabel keeps gushing about. It’s really nice to meet you. Ever since we got back, she’s been telling about all your designs and how she has every piece of every collection you have released.” Alexis said with a very fluid and soothing English accent.

“Oh really?” She chuckled

“Mirabel and I go way back”

“That, I can tell. You have a lovely office by the way” Alexis said

“Thank you very much Alexis

“Anyway” Mirabel cut in

“Daddy is going to hand over the company to my older brother, Ik in about a months time. That is why he and Alexis moved back to Nigeria. There is going to be a special dinner to celebrate so we will be needing two custom dresses for a dinner.”

“That’s really lovely. So what do you ladies have in mind?”

They went on telling Ana exactly what they wanted. The fabric, the patterns, the textures, the colour pallets they would be working with and so on. They spent a lot of time chatting and goofing around. Ana almost forgot what she had found on her desk earlier. Her attention was drawn back to it as soon as the two ladies were about to leave.

Once they left, she took it out of the drawer she had hurriedly thrown it in earlier. She still could not believe it. She had secretly hoped that the contents would have changed by the time she had to take it out of the drawer. But the contents were still the same as they were. The contents still read:

“You are cordially invited to the union of Richard Bassey and Elizabeth Coker”

A sense of shame and guilty came over her and she couldn’t fight back the years for much longer. Richard was getting married. No matter how much she tried to push it away and ignore it or lie to herself, deep down, she knew she still loved him deeply. Despite the fact that she kept telling herself that what she had with Richard was just sex, she secretly hoped that it could lead to a possible reconciliation between the two of them so they could get back together. But she was wrong. All he wanted from her was just sex. That was all it was to him. Just sex. She needed to speak to someone so she called Zara

“Hey babe what’s up?”

“Zara are you in Lagos now?”

“Yeah. Just stepped in right now. Rachel is here with me. Is anything the matter?

“I am coming over right now”

“Alright girl you need to calm down cos you’re scaring the heck out of me. Did anything happen? Why do you sound so weird?”

“I will tell you guys everything once I get there. I am coming right now”

“Ok girl. We are waiting for you”

Zara’s father was a wealthy businessman who made a lot of his wealth in the early 80s. Ana often envied Zara and her privileged background. She never had to deal with any of the struggles the rest of them often had to face. Her home was a beautiful duplex at Osborne, Ikoyi which he father gifted her when she got her degree in Engineering.

Once Ana entered Zara’s house, the floodgates of questions greeted her

“Oh my goodness Ana what happened. I have been worried sick” Zara said

“Look at your eyes, have you been crying. You poor thing” Rachel said

Once she narrated everything to them, she could clearly see the anger on their faces. She knew Zara is not the type to not speak her mind. She also knew that at this point she was not going to sugar coat anything to spare her feelings

“Girl, you really went back to screwing around with Richard after everything he did to you. That was very foolish of you”

“Ahan Zara. That was a bit harsh” Rachel said

“Abeg abeg abeg. It is what she needs to hear. You too think about it now how was she hoping to get back together with a guy that cheated on her with her Secretary. Now the guy is getting married to the same secretary”

“Wait sef Ana. That means he was cheating on the Secretary with you. Wow o” Rachel continued.

And for some reason they all burst out laughing

“I can’t believe that is the guy you are in love with. Honestly you can do better”

The whole place fell into silence when Ana’s phone started ringing. It was Richard.
