Tokyo fashion week may not be among the Big four, but it definitely deserves to bring up the number to 5 with it’s blazing street style.
Tokyo’s street style was so diverse and a step apart from the usual street style of London, Paris, Milan and New York, and TBH it’s quite refreshing. Fashion week is usually the one time of the year where you can express yourself and present a statement on your personal style among fellow comrades in style, without fear of being criticized, Oh you still would be criticized, make no mistake, but at least it would be from persons who actually know a thing or two about fashion.
The first thing I thought from Tokyo’s street style was, where are the women, and that’s another refreshing thing about them. Usually when it comes to fashion week street style, we’re so used to seeing women’s style everywhere with just a handful of men that we forget it should be a two way thing, but Tokyo’s men are steady winning and not letting the ladies outshine them on this one.
There was also a general consensus to stylish layered chaos, it was like any direction you looked there was yet another stylish Va Va Voom lurking. As much as I’m a minimalist at heart when it comes to style, I still can appreciate good layering when I see it, might even pick one or two cues for fashion week this year and so should you. And it would seem that Tokyo’s stylish citizens also love the fanny pack in all its glory, and I don’t mean the designer purses in form of waist slings but the ‘originals’ if we could call it that.
