Haute couture is, by definition, about the impossible and the unobtainable. It’s a glamorous dream world that simultaneously references the highest echelons of fashion and the astonishing touch of craftspeople. Yet, even here, reality creeps in.
The Valentino haute couture show which held at the Hotêl Salomon de Rothschild in Paris was a boundless breath of imagination brought to reality. As ethereal as the clothes themselves felt, the collection wouldn’t be as acclaimed without the beautiful array of feathery lashes that transformed the Valentino models into gorgeous modern day fairies.
Accomplished makeup artist and beauty entrepreneur Pat McGrath, who did the faces of all the girls created special fluttery feather lashes that matched each girls look and skin, leaving the rest of the face bare as well as the lips nude with beige lip-stains. The effect, was so magical it resembled something straight out of a Disney fairy tale.
While, this butterfly eyes couldn’t fit everyone’s look, McGrath still provided the special butterfly feel by painting special butterfly images on the side of the faces.
This Spring Summer 2019 (SS19) Haute Couture Coverage was a perfect illustration of Piccioli’s philosophies on time, and a reminder that just because something belongs to an era long gone it can very much live in the present.
