Hairvolution Artist talk

 What: Taiye Idahor; Hairvolution. Artist Taiye Idahor, in collaboration with The Whitespace Gallery Ikoyi, will exhibit her recent works titled  “Hairvolution” a collection of work made up of newsprint, drawing and photographic collage on canvas. According to the artist Hairvolution emerged from a fundamental and persistent question – ‘Is this your hair?’. The exhibition is a journey of self-discovery which began  with the artist focusing on her family history and lineage.  Taiye Idahor unravels and question her history and identity in her new body of work, adopting her paternal grandmother’s name, Ayie as her point of reference. Hairvolution explores  the origins, history and memories attached to her  curly long hair, while delving into the concept of multiplicity and reincarnation, a belief strongly held within her Benin culture.

Lagos Jazz Series November 2014

What: Lagos Jazz Series. The annual music festival will take place over 3 days and 2 venues. The event will be headlined by British-Nigerian Jazz and Soul artiste, Ola Onabule. “His performance was so electrifying that we had to bring him back for our November main festival. This time, Ola will be performing audience at the Muri Okunola Park venue. Also billed to perform at the Muri Okunola Park are the “Jos Boyz” crew that includes artistes such as The Chairman himself – M.I Abaga, Jesse Jags, Ruby Gyang, etc. Soul singer and Cape Verde beauty, Lura will be headlining the Federal Palace Venue and as will AfroBeat sensation Seun Kuti. With lots of shopping available, from fashion, jewelry and gifts to furniture, cakes and coffee, you can find it all at Lost in Lagos LIVE. Lost in Lagos LIVE brings the best of Lagos business together with great entertainment, activities for kids and the LIL Café to Lagosians and visitors alike.

Lost in Lagos LIVE 2014 will not only be celebrating the best of Lagos, but SPAN (Society for Performing Arts Nigeria) at 10, debuting the first ever Kids Tent. Lost in Lagos has come together with Nickelodeon, SPAN and Indomie to bring a unique kids tent with Santa, meet and great sessions with Dora the Explorer and SongeBob and a costume party. Vendors inside the tent will be dedicated to kids, with activities for them to take part in. Lost in Lagos together with SPAN will also be running a toy drive to collect toys for the kids of Dustbin Estate for Christmas.

The main marquee will have fantastic vendors, a live band, the LIL Café with coffee from Café Neo and tasty treats including crepes, paninis and more from different café vendors. Every hour raffle prizes will be given out, with the first day comprising of prizes from hotel stays to a Sony Camera and the second day lots of gifts from Dulux Paint.

Also debuting this year is a lounge sponsored by Spice TV with a beauty bar with makeovers and Intercontinental Hotel Spa will be offering a mini-spa area with massages.

Strands-Events-Shut-Down-XMas-fair-November-2014

What: Shut Down Xmas Fair 2014. The theme for this year’s event is Something for All the Senses offering a selection of gifting items, books, fashion designers, toys, household items, perfumes, chocolates, pie and wines, good music and lots more at affordable prices.

This year’s edition will feature about 40 exhibitors to include brands like Skye Bank, Laterna Bookshop, F3G1, Tomi Treat, Mushoom I like Boutique, Dress Express (Collectibles), Little Weavers, Mother Care, Zabethel Fashion, Fabulous BSD, Adran Homes, Yoppa Scented World, Shoes 4 U, Lawiza Creations, Jemiriana African, Adam & Eve & many more. There will also be lots of fun activities like face painting, bouncy castle and a Santa’s grotto for kids to enjoy, prizes to be won.

What: The Inspired Series presents Redefining Beauty. The Redefining Beauty event aims to explore the narrative of beauty and the different elements and society’s constant use of the the external to qualify and in many cases sets unrealistic expectations of what we should look like or aspire to look like.

The event hosted by Glory Edozien will include everyday women who are constantly redefining standards of what it means to be a women in today’s Nigeria.
