If you’ve been looking for a reason to pack a bag and head down to Lakowe Lakes Golf & Country Estate, their newest addition is an absolute no-brainer. Dropping right into the mix on a Sunday during the festive Detty December rush, a new hub called Golf X has quietly set up shop to offer something a bit different from our usual routines.
The best part? You can leave any stuffy ideas about dress codes, expensive club memberships, or formal golf lessons at the gate. The entire concept is built around unpretentious fun, curiosity, and just having a laugh with your people, meaning you don't need an ounce of actual golfing skill to turn up and enjoy it.
Taking its cues from the massive global popularity of Topgolf, the venue blends a bit of clever technology with an all-day hangout format. You get settled into your own hitting bay, which comes fitted with a massive digital screen. Instead of regular golf balls, you're hitting microchipped balls out into an outfield packed with target zones. Hidden radar sensors track your ball's speed, distance, and accuracy the second it leaves your club. The data flashes directly onto your bay's screen in real time, making it incredibly visual, interactive, and ripe for a bit of competitive banter.
The grand opening drew a lively crowd of creatives, tastemakers, and lifestyle enthusiasts. While a few people were genuinely focused on nailing their swing, plenty of others were perfectly content just holding a drink, listening to the music, and cheering from the sidelines. Because leisure is as much about the food as it is the activity, Golf X has integrated a proper premium bar and a curated menu into the space. It makes it incredibly easy for group hangouts, family days, or corporate team-bonding sessions to stretch out for hours. As the afternoon sun begins to set over the Lakowe landscape, the venue naturally transitions into a relaxed evening social spot.
Karla Groenewald, the General Manager at Lakowe Lakes, explained that the space was created to fill a genuine need for multi-dimensional spots where families, seasoned players, and total beginners can actually hang out and connect under one roof. Supporting this, Deputy Manager of Business Planning & Strategy Mofe Alli added that the venue was intentionally built for the community, focusing on inclusivity and shared experiences that make people want to keep coming back.
It’s completely open to the public now, so if you fancy trying a new standard of play, the tees are ready for you.
