The highly anticipated 9th edition of the Lagos Leather Fair (LLF2026) officially opened its doors with an exclusive VIP Opening Event on Friday 26th June.
Organized in partnership with Ecobank Business and proudly sponsored by the Bank of Industry, Kharis Engineering Services Ltd, Leadway, and the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN), alongside a wide network of media and creative partners, Lagos Leather Fair 2026 gathered prominent industry leaders, financial experts, policymakers, and creative innovators committed to driving growth, innovation and sustainable development within the African Leather Industry to celebrate the rich potential and economic power of Africa’s leather sector to its opening night at the Ecobank Pan African Centre, Lagos.
In her address and official opening remarks, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, reiterated the federal government's commitment to scaling local value chains, promoting artisanal craftsmanship, and creating an enabling environment for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to thrive globally.
The event also featured insightful perspectives from foundational partners and international development leaders. Delivering a warm welcome address, Mrs. Femi Olayebi, Founder of the Lagos Leather Fair, detailed the journey of the platform and its vision for expanding the continent's leather economy. Commending the LLF journey thus far, she spoke on the fair's achievements and said;
“While all we have achieved is commendable, we must also recognise our work is far from done. Buildings do not build industries. Machines alone do not create ecosystems. The right blueprint needs to be put in place”
She also emphasised the fair's continuous commitment to positioning the African leather industry on the global stage, fostering local talent, and driving sustainable manufacturing and ended her welcome address by thanking all partners, sponsors and stakeholders.
Keynote remarks and institutional support highlighted the event's core focus on strategic partnerships and economic empowerment
Ms. Elsie Attafuah, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), highlighted the critical intersection of industrialization, regional trade, and economic empowerment linking the development of the leather industry to broader sustainable development goals and regional trade growth.
Mrs. Omoboye Odu, Head of SME & Partnerships at Ecobank, who reaffirmed the financial sector's strategic support for scaling local talent and unlocking sustainable funding pathways for SMEs and highlighted crucial financing pathways and structural support systems available for scaling leather design businesses.
A major highlight of the VIP opening was the vibrant Mini Runway Presentation, where a curated selection of leather designs came to life, bridging the gap between raw manufacturing and high-end fashion.

The exhibition was officially declared open following a distinguished address by the Honorable Minister of Industry, Trade & Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, who commended the initiative for driving industrialization, creating jobs, and aligning with national economic diversification goals.

Day 1
The Lagos Leather Fair (LLF2026) officially opened the doors of its landmark 9th edition to the general public on Saturday, June 27th.
Attended by international buyers, policy experts, tech innovators, and hundreds of local artisans, this year’s fair focused heavily on breaking global market barriers and equipping homegrown brands with advanced digital tools, consolidating its position as the definitive pan-African platform for the leather value chain.
From 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the venue was transformed into a high-energy hub of economic dialogue, commercial exchange, and creative celebration. The event successfully proved that the African leather industry is no longer just a local craft, but a multi-billion Naira sector ready for the global stage.
The afternoon kicked off with a highly anticipated Panel Discussion, “Exportation & Compliance: Navigating the Legal Landscape of Exotic and Other Skins.” This crucial session addressed the strict international regulatory frameworks that often hinder African brands from entering Western and Asian markets.
Legal experts, sustainability auditors, and trade compliance officials took the stage to dissect complex trade treaties, CITES regulations for exotic skins, and ethical sourcing requirements. Panellists emphasised that strict adherence to international environmental and legal standards is the ultimate passport for Nigerian leather to sit on premium global retail shelves.
Following the legal panel, the LLF2026 Masterclass took a futuristic turn with “From Workshop to World Markets: Data, Artificial Intelligence & Export Economics – How to Drive Global Competitiveness for Nigerian Leather Brands.”
This deep-dive session provided attendees with a masterclass on integrating modern technology into traditional workshops. Industry leaders demonstrated how local brands can leverage data analytics to forecast global fashion trends, optimise supply chains, and reduce material waste. The session specifically highlighted how Artificial Intelligence can streamline online marketing, automate custom sizing, and scale up export economics, offering a blueprint for local workshops to efficiently compete with fast-fashion giants abroad.
LLF2026 successfully balanced high-level industry discourse with hands-on, interactive experiences that engaged attendees throughout the day.
The Commerce Hub offered a vibrant Exhibition & Shopping arena that allowed local designers to generate immediate revenue, network with wholesale buyers, and pitch directly to an international audience.

The Maker’s Bench & The LLF Atelier provided dedicated live-action spaces that pulled back the curtain on the manufacturing process. Attendees witnessed master craftsmen demonstrating intricate cutting, stitching, and finishing techniques, emphasising the high-quality labour behind premium African leather goods.

The LLF Signature Piece Challenge championed democratic design through open box voting. Attendees actively participated in selecting the most innovative piece of the fair, giving emerging designers an unfiltered look at consumer preferences.
The fair reached its crescendo with the iconic LLF Runway Shows. The runway served as a powerful visual narrative, showcasing avant-garde collections, structured luxury handbags, and bespoke footwear. The collections, from exhibitors such as Mhose, Chrisbeks, Sole Inspiration, Zamany Accessories, FemiHandbags - the convener, seamlessly blended traditional African heritage with contemporary global aesthetics, earning standing ovations from fashion critics and closing out the first day of the fair on an undeniable high note.
Day 2
LLF2026 officially drew to a spectacular close on Sunday, June 28, wrapping up a definitive two-day event that firmly anchored the African leather industry at the intersection of cultural heritage and cutting-edge global innovation. Serving as the ultimate wrap-up event for a weekend of intense networking and commercial activity, the grand finale culminated in the prestigious LLF Awards ceremony, celebrating the trailblazers, innovators, and visionaries driving the continent's leather ecosystem forward.
Throughout the course of the fair, LLF2026 united regional artisans, international buyers, raw material suppliers, and policymakers under one roof. The final day delivered a high-impact, meticulously curated schedule designed to empower local designers with the strategic and technical tools necessary to scale their businesses globally.
The day kicked off with the bustling exhibition & shopping pavilion, which saw loads of local and international patrons engaging directly with premium, made-in-Africa leather brands, generating significant economic momentum for the creative sector.
Central to the success of the wrap-up event were the thought-leadership sessions that challenged traditional boundaries.
Industry stalwarts, such as Abubakar Sanusi, Niyi Abiola, Tejumola Maurice-Diya, and Isi Braimoh, led a deep-dive panel discussion titled From Local Roots to Global Reach: Building a Scalable Leather Brand. during the Fireside Chat moderated by Olawoyin Samuel. The conversation focused heavily on overcoming supply chain bottlenecks, meeting rigorous international quality standards, and leveraging cross-border trade agreements to position African brands in luxury global retail spaces.
The Masterclass, a forward-looking session on The Future of Leather Working: AI-Assisted Techniques and Innovations by Elijah Moses, explored how artificial intelligence, digital pattern-making, and smart manufacturing are transforming production speeds, reducing material waste, and boosting sustainability.
Operating concurrently, the Maker’s Bench & the LLF Atelier offered live, hands-on demonstrations of traditional and modern leather-crafting techniques. Attendees witnessed firsthand the technical mastery, rigorous tooling, and intricate processes required to transition raw hides into high-end consumer goods.

The ultimate highlight of the grand finale was the LLF Awards. The awards ceremony honoured individuals and institutions whose exceptional contributions, design excellence, and commercial viability continue to elevate the regional leather value chain.
